1930 to 1948 but extended through 1957 on some of the "Big Twin" models. Replaced in 1949 with the Hydra-Glide telescoping fork. There was a sort revial in the soft tail era but they did not look like this and this bike appears to be a hard tail. Yep, like it or not this is a custom!
