#448226 OT; Another completed project for my "other" hobby....
Been really quiet here for a while now, so I figure I share something new with you guys that might have interest in classic racing bicycles.
My newly completed 1983 Davidson "Signature", Custom frame, race bike build.
Built by Bill Davidson, a famous bicycle frame builder from Seattle Washington.
Been always wanting to find an "artisanal" American built classic bike, different from all the European classic race bikes that i already have in my stable. It is built with a full early 80's Campagnolo Super Record component Gruppo, as used by most pros in the that era, that I had to harvest slowly from all over the US and Europe to complete. The build took about two and a half months.
This early bike frame from Bill Davidson was made in very small numbers in his shop by himself in a custom build basis for each client, so much more unique than the Euro production bikes in my collection. What also attracted me to this bike is the understated aesthetics that does not depend on a lot of chrome and snazzy graphics and color, but is hand crafted with very high quality that is closer to perfection than any mass produced bikes from that time can achieve. American frame builders had been taking a back seat to Euro bike builders for so long and now these custom builders are starting to be recognized by collectors and riders of classic bikes
I rode the bike a few times already and it handles and rides beautifully on the road.
Final build weight is at a surprisingly light (for a steel bike), just a bit over 19 pounds.
Pretty much had to again cancel my plans on buying the CMC Lancia D50 for my 1:18 model collection, but getting this bike was just a higher priority than any model at this time..... My life "After Scale 18"??? ;^)
