#446958 Ebay will do NOTHING to protect a seller

A little over a year ago I decided I needed to sell off some models before I could justify any new purchases and I had some things that no longer fit in with the direction I wanted to go in - so I headed to Ebay and listed the first one.
Got a fairly good price, not the top of the market perhaps but I was okay with it. Buyer received model and emailed to say that it was damaged in shipping. I would have thought that was almost impossible the way I had packed it but, okay, whatever I ask the buyer to take it to the post office and start the insurance claim.
He decides, without telling me, that would be far too much trouble so he'll just say that it was damaged before I shipped it out and that I concealed the damage. He files a claim with Ebay and before they even get my response they've taken the money right out of my account, ruled in his favor, and closed the case.
Emails and messages to Ebay were pointless - ignored everything I said including the part where I told them they were basically aiding and abetting the buyer in committing mail fraud - a Federal offense in the USA.
Buyer left me negative feedback - my one and only negative in EIGHTEEN YEARS on the platform - destroying my 100% perfect rating and souring me forever towards selling on Ebay.
Your auction terms, your return policy, the fact that you insist on insurance, etc, all will be meaningless if the buyer lies as mine did and is determined to have his way.
There is NO protection for the seller - NONE.

In the end I got the model back - and it looks to me like the buyer deliberately broke an opening engine cover off - there's no way that happened when the model was still attached to the base, the engine cover was secured, the model box was wrapped in bubble wrap and placed in a much larger outer box and packed around with foam peanuts. I was also able to claim on the postal insurance AND recover the fees from Ebay but that took a lot of effort and time. Be warned - you have no protection against this type of buyer.
