1964 was an interesting year for GT cars. A number of manufacturers embraced the rules that allowed GT cars to compete as GT cars with 'experimental' bodies - that is as long as the car underneath met the rules for GT cars you could race it as such without having to produce 100 such cars.
The Ferrari 250 GTO was the first wildly successful car built this way as it is, at its base, a rebodied 250 GT. So was the Bizzarini 'Bread Van' These two cars, and several others, set the stage for the GT cars of 1964, which is why I have them in the background of my photos.
The latest addition to my 1964 collection is the Aston Martin DP 214 which is a 'rebodied' Aston Martin DB4. Aston Martin only made two of these cars and I have to admit that I never thought I would see one in 1:18 scale.
My fondest wish now is to get a proper model of the Ferrari 250 GTO 64 and AC Cobra Coupe. I expect to see the Ferrari, which can be made in a number of liveries but I suspect the AC Coupe will never be made - which is a shame as it may have been the best looking of the bunch.
