has announced that they will be offering a 996 piece limited edition of the 1958 Darlington Southern 500 race winner - a 1/18 die cast 1957 Chevrolet driven by Fireball Roberts with race modifications and race day markings. The car looks very nice with the only obvious issue being that the car is the wrong body configuration. The model has the 2 door post while the actual race car was a hardtop (no post). The announcement first calls the car a "replica" but later refers to it as a "tribute".
This is the same issue that accompanied the Paul Goldsmith '57 Chevy recently produced by ACME, but I guess they figure that this won't keep collectors away.
