#434295 Well done Bill................
Posted by Frank Lemire on Friday Dec 19, 2014 at 05:51AM in response to #434291
I'm happy that a little digging got us a Gurney driven car we can be proud of.

I'll be writing on the display tag for my car 'First Race' which takes a bit of the sting out of DNF.

For those interested the car that AUTOart sells with the #30 can be made correct by removing the livery. That car was never raced. You might call it the 1963 'prototype' car. Porsche actually shut down its F-1 effort at the end of 1962 as they decided that the money and research spent in this type of racing would not be as beneficial to building better 'street' cars as campaigning sports cars. The real reason might be that the space frame construction of this car was inferior to the monocoque cars now being built by Lotus and others. The engine was also found wanting so the program would have had to have started with a clean sheet of paper.

The success the car had must be in large measure thanks to the driving skill of Dan Gurney. That is reason enough to have this in my collection.
