The car makers today don't really want too many "shade-tree mechanics" messing around with their car's hi tech gear in their garages, so they install all sorts of covers and shields in the way in engine compartments to discourage this = more customers & profit for their dealership service departments.....
It sure is not as fun to tinker around with cars these days, as I used to do with my cars in the 80's. Everything is now OBD, computerized, plug and play quick change out parts and components....
