You know you could actually fix this by doing a repair that we use for historic restoration. Install a 'Dutchman'. You cut out the damaged area and then insert an undamaged piece in its place. Once you glue it in and sand it to fit you will be back in business. All you need is the right plastic to make the Dutchman.
