car made after 1977 or so. Then I'll start cutting back on certain marques. Here are my primary focus groups, in order of preference:
1) 1920's and 1930's European race cars, especially Grand Prix cars
2) 1930's European street versions which have some relationship to the race cars
3) Post-war through early 1970's European sports race cars
4) Post-war through 1960's Grand Prix cars
5) Specific sports & rally cars, such as Renault Alpines, Fiat 124's, Lancia Stratos & 037's
6) Specific French cars, e.g., Citroen SM's and DS types
7) Minicars, e.g, BMW Isettas, Messerschmitts, Smart cars
The overiding factor is quality of detail and style; the latter supporting such special buys as a Neo Facel Vega II and a Minichamps 1954 Bentley R-type Continental Coupe
I've sold off almost all my Lamborghinis and Panozes, next to go are Williams, TVRs, Tyrrells, post 1977 Ferraris, post 1977 Maseratis, etc.; you get the picture. I burned out early on getting the latest, greatest and most outrageous supercars. I just don't have any affinity for any US brand, except for the Ford GT40's, nor any Asian brands.
After I streamline the collection down to the groups above, I may take another whack at reducing it further. But it's going to take a while to reduce; it has taken me over 14 years to accumulate my collection of over 1,400 models and I won't be able to sell them off as fast.
Finally, why the interest in what some could call a rather odd blend of directions? One of my first car books - back in 1960 - was Alfred Neubauer's "Speed Was My Life" and I got interested in the pre-war GP cars, especially the Silver Arrows. As for the others: I've owned and rebuilt 4 Fiat 124's (1969 Sport Coupe, 1970 Sport Coupe, 1974 and 1981 Spiders) so I like Fiats and Lancias; my first car - in 1968 - was a 1959 BMW Isetta cabrio on which I learned all about car mechanicals so I like mini and micro-cars; on vacations to France and Italy and on vacations to (and living in for a year) England, I enjoyed their cars - especially those from the 60's that I saw at the very frequent car meets; and I've owned a 1978 Lotus Esprit SII, so Lotus is a fav. And of course I have some Toyota MR2 spider models because I currently have a 2003 spider for my summer car.
Sorry for being so long, but you asked!
